Frequently Asked Questions
How does Ring account linking work?
When you install CareLens, you are redirected to Ring's official authorization page (at ring.com — CareLens never handles your Ring password). After you approve the connection, Ring issues CareLens a secure access token that allows it to receive camera events on your behalf. You can revoke this connection at any time from your Ring account settings, which will also disable CareLens.
What data does CareLens store?
CareLens stores: your Ring account email address, device identifiers for cameras you pair, motion event metadata (timestamps, device label, event type — not video), one snapshot image per motion event, daily activity summaries, family member email addresses, billing identifiers, and an audit log of access events. We do not store Ring passwords, video clips, audio, biometric data, or health information. See our Data Retention section for how long each type is kept.
What can family members see?
Invited family members can view the activity timeline, daily summaries, and snapshots for cameras the account owner has paired. They cannot see billing information, account settings, or other family members' access history. The account owner can see a full audit log of all access events, including which family members viewed what and when. The owner can revoke a family member's access at any time from Account Settings.
How are daily activity summaries generated?
Once per day, CareLens sends the prior 24 hours of motion event metadata (timestamps, device labels, and event types — no images, no personally identifying information) to Anthropic's Claude Haiku 4.5 AI model. The model produces a plain-English summary such as "Active morning — front door motion at 8:14 AM, kitchen area motion 9–11 AM, quiet afternoon." Summaries are delivered to the account owner and any invited family members by email. No snapshot images or video are sent to Anthropic at any point.
How do I add a family member?
Sign in, go to Account Settings, and click "Invite Family Member." Enter their email address. They'll receive a sign-in link and be added as a viewer.
Why didn't I receive an activity summary?
Summaries are delivered once daily at your configured time (default: 8 AM in your timezone). If no motion events were detected in the prior 24 hours, a summary is still sent noting the quiet period. Check your spam folder if you're not seeing emails.
CareLens is not a medical device — what does that mean?
CareLens generates activity summaries from Ring camera events. It cannot detect falls, health events, or emergencies. For emergencies, call 911.
How do I delete my account?
Go to Account Settings and click "Delete Account." All your data will be removed within 30 days. This action cannot be undone.
Is CareLens HIPAA-compliant?
CareLens is not a covered entity and does not store protected health information (PHI). CareLens does not provide medical advice or health monitoring.
